Don’t Let the Bedbugs Bite

Depicting a child’s bedroom, Don’t Let the Bedbugs Bite is an escapist labor to create an illusion of safety from trauma while emphasizing the unknown danger and cracks in the security of the room – accomplished through the use of cute aesthetics to highlight the abject nature of  how trauma influences art and perceptions of comfort. The soft glow emanating from the dimly lit room invites the viewer inside of the immersive space to experience the conflicting feelings of safety and anxiety. The construction of this safe haven was completed through techniques in printmaking, stained glass, painting, sculpting, and assembly and alterations of found objects that allow the space to come to life.
